#1 Dinosaurs Before Dark

 

Chapter 6

Dinosaur valley

 

clutch - 움켜잡다(= grip)

take off - 떠나다

Clutching her magnolia flower, she took off down the hill.

 

mutter - 투덜거리다, (작은 소리로)불평하다(= grumble)

Jack muttered.

 

stuff - (재빨리, 되는대로) 밀어 넣다

He stuffed the gold medallion into his jeans pocket. 

 

shriek - 소리[비명]를 지르다(= scream)

Then Jack heard Annie shriek.

 

bellow - (황소 같은 큰 짐승이) 우렁찬 소리를 내다

Jack heard another sound as well-a deep, bellowing sound, like a tuba.

 

make out of - ...로 만들다

The valley below was filled with nests-big nests made out of mud.

 

crouch - 쭈구리고 앉다, 쭈그리다

Annie was crouching next to one of the nests.

 

shove - 아무렇게나 놓다[넣다]

Jack shoved the dinosaur book into his pack.

 

towering - 우뚝 솟은, 높이 치솟은

gigantic - 거대한

duckbilled - 오리 같은 주둥이를 가진

Towering over her was a gigantic duckbilled dinosaur!

 

crawl - (엎드려)기다

"Don't stand! Crawl," said Jack.

 

inch - 조금씩 움직이다

father - 더 멀리, 더 앞으로, 더

farther down - 더 아래쪽으로

Jack inched farther down the hill, until he was just an arm's distance from Annie.

 

bow - 숙이다

"Bow your head. 

 

chew - 씹다

Pretend to chew."

The dinosaur let out a sad tuba sound.

The dinosaur waddled after her.

 

colony - (새·개미·꿀벌 등의) 집단

The Anatosauruses lived in colonies.

 

babysit - (부모가 외출한 동안) 아이를 봐 주다

While a few mothers babysat the nests, others looked for food.

 

terrible - 끔찍한, 소름끼치는

Suddenly the Anatosauruses made her terrible tuba sound.

 

charge - 급히 가다, 달려가다, 돌진하다

The dinosaur charged down the hill.

 

faint - 실신할 것 같은, 어지러운

What he saw in the distance almost made him faint!

 

enormous - 막대한, 거대한(= huge, immense)

An enormous monster was coming across the plain.

 

swing - 흔들다[흔들리다]

dangle - 달랑거리다[매달리다]

It was swinging a long, thick tail and dangling  two tiny arms.

 

gleaming - 빛나는, 환한

Even from far away Jack could see its long, gleaming teeth.
